Jason Shimiaie, M.D.

I am a board certified psychiatrist in practicing in New York City and offer treatment to adults 18 years and older using a combination of individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

I specialize in the treatment of early life trauma and dissociative disorders. I am also passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ population and offer gender affirming care. My prior training in internal medicine allows me to take a holistic approach to treatment, recognizing that physical and mental health are interconnected.

 

I take a personalized and patient centered approach. The aim is to work on your goals at your pace. I bring attention to emotions, identity and interpersonal process to help increase self awareness and self efficacy in day to day life.

I completed residency training in Psychiatry at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York where I remain on faculty as an assistant clinical professor, there I consult in the emergency room and inpatient settings. I formerly worked as the medical director of their Partial Hospital Program.

 

Prior to training in Psychiatry, I completed residency in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital. I graduated medical school at Tel Aviv University where I researched and published in the fields of Cardiology and Urology. I completed my undergraduate education at Emory University with a major in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and spent time researching the neurological basis of memory formation.
